How to Use TEI/OCR Editor
Learn how to proofread and edit OCR text in TEI/XML documents with the integrated image viewer
Getting Started
1. Load a Document
Click 'Load XML' to upload a local TEI/XML file, or sign in with GitHub to browse and open files from your repositories.
2. Navigate Pages
Use the page navigation controls to move between different pages of your document. The current page number is displayed in the header.
3. Edit Text
Click on any text line to select it. Double-click to edit the text content directly.
Editor Features
Line Management
Add new lines with the '+ Add Line' button. Drag and drop lines to reorder them. Click the expand icon to edit line metadata.
Zone Mapping
Click 'Draw Rectangle' to create zones on the image. Click on a zone to select it, then link it to text lines using the zone selector.
Metadata Editing
Expand any line to edit its metadata including type, subtype, hand attribution, and custom attributes.
IIIF Image Viewer
- •Use mouse wheel or pinch gestures to zoom in/out
- •Click and drag to pan around the image
- •Use the rotation control to rotate the image
- •Toggle fullscreen mode for better visibility
GitHub Integration
- •Sign in with your GitHub account to access your repositories
- •Browse through your repositories and navigate to TEI/XML files
- •Save changes back to GitHub with a commit message
Keyboard Shortcuts
- Ctrl/Cmd + S: Save to GitHub (when available)
- Esc: Cancel current operation
- Delete: Remove selected line or zone
Tips & Best Practices
- •Always create zones before linking them to text lines
- •Use descriptive commit messages when saving to GitHub
- •Regular saves prevent data loss
- •Use the dark mode toggle for comfortable editing in low light
